WINTER WORKSHOPS
Winter Workshops
Cables, Pom Poms and Tassels, oh my!
Saturday, January 15th from 1:00 until 3:00
Come learn over a dozen new techniques in this two hour work shop. Cables are lots of fun, easier to do than you may think, and you can make all kinds of interesting and imaginative patterns with them. All it takes is a little patience and practice. Let us show you all you need to know about cables, cables needles and basic cable design.
Pom Poms are an easy project that anyone can do with a little instruction, two fingers, yarn and a pair of scissors. Pom poms are a great way to accent hats, scarves and other knitting projects.
Tassels are a fun addition to an array of knitting projects. They are especially nice on scarves, belts, home decor items and anything else you think might need a little extra something. Tassels can help eliminate the curl of stockinette stitch at the bottom of a project or they simply make a basic project look a little more gift-worthy. You will learn basic, plait, twist, and other varieties of tassels.
Swatch, Drop and Cast on!
Saturday, January 29, from 1:00 until 3:00
It’s true, these three steps are as important to knitting as Stop, Drop and Roll are to fire safety!
Have you knit something big enough for the Jolly Green Giant? Have you ever felt your heart drop upon discovering a hole you can see through in your knitting? Have you ever wondered why the cast on edge of your work is a different tension than the rest of your project? We all make mistakes in our knitting, the real trick is learning how to fix them. During this workshop, we will talk about the reasons for swatching, the various ways of swatching, and the shortcuts for swatching. We’ll practice a swatch and what changes to make so that you will “get gauge”.
As for the mysterious holes that occasionally appear in our knitting… we’ll learn several techniques for making those disappear. Picking up dropped stitches, duplicate stitches and basic darning. Did you know there are hundreds of ways to cast on a project? This is because the cast on is your foundation row of your knitting and it is not a “one size fits all” situation. We’ll teach you several of the most often used cast on techniques and when to use them.
Dash through your Stash!
Saturday, February 12, from 1:00 until 3:00
The doctor is in! Or rather the Loopy Ladies….
Do you need a little inspiration for that absolutely yummy yarn that’s been lingering in your stash? We will work together to find you pattern options that will have you running home to start knitting. Because of the time limitation, limit your projects to 3 please. There will be time for open trading of stash with other workshop participants for those skeins that you love but know deep down that you’ll never get to knitting. We will also talk about stash storage and organization.
Cost for each workshop is $35.00 and space is limited
