Neauveau Fiber Arts
Two weeks ago we received an email from a young fiber artist inquiring about our shop possibly having interest in carrying some of her “work”. I use the word “work” here because what Ashley spins are true pieces of art on their own and are known in the spinning community as Art Yarns.
We replied to her email and asked her if she would be willing to send us a few clippings of her fibers. Her return email was ” I am in Bellingham can I come and show you”, so on that Friday, this sweet young girl, appeared like Santa, carrying her bag of wares and as soon as she began to place the skeins on the table before us, we knew we had something special. Ashley Martineau is the creative force behind Neauveau Fiber Arts. She is a native of Oregon, living here in Massachusetts for a short time while her husband completes his internship at the New England Aquarium.
Had our excitement overpowered us? No! Before we even had a chance to cast on some new projects showcasing these beautiful fibers, or price them, we had most of the skeins sold. A marathon week of spinning and Ashley has us restocked and ready to debut on August 2nd.
Her beautiful fibers are spun with wool, recycled wool, silk, mohair, crystals, beads and average 65 – 70 yds. Ellen has designed a full cold-weather set with scarf, hat and fingerless, using Twinkle’s Baby Chunky and Neauveau’s Rasta Twist. Ror the more adventurous, a necklace that can be worn doubled or tripled around your neck with more beads and silk ribbons.
In The Loop will be the only Massachusetts shop, exclusively, to carry Neauveau Fiber Arts Art Yarns and we invite you and Ashley’s large fan following to come by and visit. These yarns are not for knitting sweaters but we have an endless list of possiblities as to what you can create with these stunning fibers.
